Travel Thursday ~ State of North Carolina

North Carolina is south to my home state of Virginia. It is also bordered by South Carolina, Tennessee, and Georgia. The capital is Raleigh, with Charlotte being the largest in the state. North Carolina is home to many popular colleges; North Carolina Central University, Duke, UNC, North Carolina A &T, and NC State to name a few.

The state is special to me for so many reasons. My grandmother and mother were both born in Smithfield, which is small town in North Carolina. My daughter will graduate from North Carolina Central University in December. One of my closest friends live there, and it has been the home of the biggest adult party the CIAA which I have been fortunate to attend several times.

While visiting my daughter in Durham during her college years we would always go to Southpoint Mall. It is an outside mall with a variety of stores and home of one of our favorite restaurants Zinburger. We visited the downtown area, just to walk around and have something to do.

We would also visit Duke University because that was always the college I wanted to attend. I actually applied and I wasn’t accepted. Lol. I didn’t have the 4.0 GPA. However, I still loved the school. The Univeristy Chapel is beautiful. On the day we visited I was not able to see the inside of the chapel because of a wedding. Again, I had plenty of pictures. I don’t know what happened to them, I texted my aunt to get the pics below.

Next stop we would visit was the Chapel Hill area, my daughter loves Franklin Street. It’s nice for the college kids and quite quaint. My daughters favorite eatery was Sup Dog, because she loves hot dogs and they were flavorful and good. Not to mention, the staff and and atmosphere was great.

As you know, I am lover of museum and the arts. I had the pleasure of visiting two museums in North Carolina. The North Carolina Museum of Natural Science and The North Carolina Museum of Art.

The North Carolina Museum of Art was beautiful. The outside at architecture was great. I always believe that makes the museum. It invites you in to want to tour and enjoy all the exhibits. Whenever I go to museums, I can spend hours just enjoying and appreciating the beauty. This museum did not disappoint. It’s one of the leading art museums in the south.

The North Carolina Museum of Natural Science is an excellent choice if you are a science lover. The museum features dinosaur exhibits, interactive exhibits, live animals, and other special exhibits. One thing I actually loved about the Museum was this huge globe they had outside of the museum.

Charlotte, THE QUEEN CITY, oh how I love you. I love the city of Charlotte and it’s hospitality. Charlotte is home to the Carolina Panthers for all the football fans. I only visit the city during the CIAA which I call the largest best adult party. However the QUEEN CITY has something for everyone to enjoy. The EpiCentre is a one of my favorite places to visit. It’s in the heart of the city. It is the center of entertainment and night life to include several restaurants, bars, and shopping. Not to mention you never know what celebrities you will see. I saw Kevin Hart and I met Anthony Hamilton and Peter from Real Housewives of Atlanta.

We always laugh at this Pic.
Kevin Hart even walks in with the jokes.

I am an animal lover , so I have visited the North Carolina Zoo In Asheboro. I enjoyed myself but it was just to hot for me. Imagine heat and animals. I also suggest bringing some good walking shoes. The zoo layout was difficult, even the map was not helpful. It seems like you were never going to stop walking. I got to see a giraffe in person, I was to excited about that. You see all kinds of animals, they seem to be taken care of pretty well other than the polar bear. He looked unhealthy because of the heat. I think he needs to be returned to his original home and habitat. All in all, the views were absolutely breathtaking.

Polar Bear looked unhealthy to me.
Breathtaking Views.

North Carolina is a state that is growing and have several amazing cities. It has so many things to offer from education to entertainment. It’s a wonderful place to visit.

Until next Thursday….What do you love about North Carolina.

  1. I’ve been to North Carolina but never really got the chance to visit and explore. So, thank you for sharing these lovely pictures ☀️🦋🌻❤ I’d love to visit Duke University. I too am a animal lover so I’d love to go to the zoo! I like Kevin Hart in movies but not stand-up, lol! One day I will go to North Carolina and truly explore. Thanks for sharing, Shawn 💕
